Catholic Traditionalists: Rebels with a Cause!!!

+
JMJ

Catholic Traditionalists get called a lot of names: Lefebvrist, Schismatic, Older people nostalgic for structures and customs which are no longer life-giving in today's world etc.  Most of the labels accuse them (at least implicitly) of being crypto-Lefebvrists.  At least that's the reason given for destroying the FFI.

There is a lot of fuss being made about the rebellious SSPX.  The question is what is the root cause of their 'rebellion'?  Simple, they refused to go along with the 'new way'.  Specfically, they refused to accept the Second Vatican Council in the light of the 'Spirit of the Council'.  In fact they are the originators of the 'accept the council in the light of tradition' principle (see four points). In like manner they have determined that they cannot accept the Novus Ordo Missae as it is a protestantized rite and violates the Lex Orandi - Lex Credidi principle.

Interested, why not find out more?

The best place to start to learn about the SSPX is from the SSPX.

In my Blog list you'll find DICI.org, the SSPX news site, the Canadian website (sspx.ca) with a drop down list of the other main SSPX websites and now:

A website about their founder Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre  (marcellefebvre.info/en) has been launched and I'm personally looking forward to delving into understanding what event formed this holy prelate.

On this 110th anniversary of the birth of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, we are happy to announce the launch of a website dedicated to the memory of our revered founder.
This site is accessible as of today. First and foremost, it is a filial tribute to our beloved father at a time when many, even in the Society of St. Pius X, never knew personally the Archbishop.
The site includes a presentation in four languages of the places and major events that marked the course of his life. It contains photos, videos, and recordings that help us to get to know him. Bishop Bernard Tissier de Mallerais, his biographer, has provided some texts that will allow people to see the depths of the soul of this apostle, missionary, and servant of the Church.
But this site is also intended as an apostolate. At a time when many are beginning to discover the Mass and Tradition, it is important that Archbishop Lefebvre be more than just a name. Visiting the site will not replace reading his biography or his works; it should rather lead to their discovery.
May marcellefebvre.info/en touch your hearts and foster therein a love for Our Lord Jesus Christ by the example of a man who, without doubt, will one day be declared a saint to imitate and invoke.
My sincere congratulations and gratitude to everyone whose patient work has brought this wonderful projet to fruition.

Morning and Evening and other sundry Prayers

+ JMJ Along the theme of P^3 (Prayer, Penance, Patience), and for my own reference ... here is a collection of Morning and Evening prayers from the Ideal Daily Missal along with some additional prayers. In this crisis of the Church, I do not think it is possible to do too much prayer, penance and have patience. P^3

Is it sinful to attend the Novus Ordo (New Mass) - Is it Sinful to Not Attend the Novus Ordo on Sunday?

+ JMJ A non-SSPX Catholic is upset over the SSPX statements on not attending the Novus Ordo Missae. Ladies and gentlemen, what the SSPX, or at least its website editor, is advocating is a mortal sin against the Third Commandment.  Unless the priest deviates from the language of the Sacramentary, the consecration, and thus the rest of Mass is to be considered valid.  No one may elect not to attend Mass simply because abuses are occurring therein.  Might I suggest that such absenteeism is its own abuse?  The Third Commandment binds under mortal sin.  Father So-And-So from the SSPX has no authority whatsoever to excuse attendance at Mass, be that Mass ever so unpalatable. Source:Restore DC Catholicism Well, this is interesting. First why does the SSPX issue this statement? Because it is sinful to put your faith in danger by attending a protestant service.  It is likewise dangerous to put your faith in danger by attending a protestantized mass (ie the Novus Ordo Missae

Remember this day March 25, 1991 - The Death of Archbishop Lefebvre

+ JMJ This is the day, 25 years ago, that Archbishop Lefebvre passed on to his eternal reward. I know that he has as many (perhaps even more) critics than admirers.  For example I still remember Fr. Paul Nicholson's screed in which he shouted from the top of his webpage: "To die excommunicated - how horrible". I'll leave aside Fr. Nicholson's ignorance on the matter as in the grand scheme of things, his impact on the life of the Mystical Body of Christ, which IS the Roman Catholic Church is no greater than that of Michael Voris etc. Archbishop Lefebvre and the work he founded (ie Fraternal Society of St. Pius X ) have had a significant impact. Let us list of few from greatest to smallest: Consistent and constant Catholic perspective on the crisis of the Church from the halls of the Second Vatican Council to the Synod on the Family (and beyond!) Summorum Pontificum and Universae Ecclesiae : By which the restoration of the sacramental life of the
