A Principled Resistance

Archbishop Lefebvre's and by extension the SSPX, response to the Neo-Modernist Crisis of the Church was guided by a set of principles. These principles I've discussed and expanded upon in this series of posts that I have collected as part of my studies.

These principles create a logical framework of artifacts, values and assumptions for guiding their response to various events / actions.

The core of these is that the Catholic Church is indefectible, in that it will remain always the Ark of Salvation. This does not mean that the Pope et al are impeccable. A brief look at the Popes, bishops, priests, of history gives forth objective evidence to this regard. While there is confusion about the use of the term 'conciliar Church' - there is no confusion about the Marks of the Church. Find the Marks and you find the Church. As noted earlier, the Pope is an integral component to the Mark of Unity, even if he is unworthy of the position that he occupies.

Nor are they 'irresistable', meaning that one must obey them in all things otherwise one commits the sin of schism. This is simply St. Thomas Aquinas interpretation, any command that involves sin is to be 'resisted', period. The adoption of a seriously defective liturgy is not required under the pain of mortal sin. The New Mass is was it is: A banal on the spot fabrication.

Understanding the basics of ecclesiology and obedience are essential to survival in this crisis. Interestingly, CMTV, 'resistors' and sedevacantists are in agreement on key points - but their conclusions widely differ.

Obviously, I have concluded that the SSPX et al have chosen to correctly walk the knife's edge in this crisis, and I simply will apply the principles in examining the false advertising of the likes of opponents to the SSPX.

What the heck is a congregation of "Pontifical Right"

+ JMJ In a discussion with a friend the question occurred to me that I didn't actually know was is involved in being a religious order of 'pontifical right'. I had a vague notion that this meant they reported to Rome as opposed to the local diocese. I'm also aware that, according to the accounts I have heard, the Archbishop received 'praise' and the written direction to incardinate priests directly into the SSPX. This is interesting because it implies that the SSPX priests were no longer required to incardinate in the local diocese but in the SSPX. Is it sinful to attend the Novus Ordo (New Mass) - Is it Sinful to Not Attend the Novus Ordo on Sunday?

+ JMJ A non-SSPX Catholic is upset over the SSPX statements on not attending the Novus Ordo Missae. Ladies and gentlemen, what the SSPX, or at least its website editor, is advocating is a mortal sin against the Third Commandment. Unless the priest deviates from the language of the Sacramentary, the consecration, and thus the rest of Mass is to be considered valid. No one may elect not to attend Mass simply because abuses are occurring therein. Might I suggest that such absenteeism is its own abuse? The Third Commandment binds under mortal sin.
